Jack had everything going for him in the world of politics. From serving as the Chairman of the Massachusetts Alliance of College Republicans, which organized student volunteers for Ronald Reagan's presidental campaign, to becoming chairman of the College Republican National Committee (CRNC). He made many lasting relationships across the nation during his time with the CRNC, some of which would later follow him into a federal investigation.

In 1985, Abramhoff joined Citizens for America, a pro-Reagan group that helped Oliver North build support for the Nicarguan Contras. The Demonocratic International was held holding an unprecedented meeting of the anti0Communist rebelo leaders. Jack's membership did not end well when Citizens for America's sponsors concluded that Abramoff had spent his money carelessly. As a side note, he was removed from the Citizens for America just prior to the investigation of what would become the Iran-Contra Affair, however, Regan appointed Abramoff as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Council in 1986.
